The Fulton Reception and Diagnostic Center (FRDC) is the intake and orientation center for male inmates assigned from central Missouri. The staff are responsible for the evaluation of inmates and their assignment to other correctional facilities custody levels C-1 to C-5. Assigning inmates to an appropriate facility increases public safety. FRDC houses 1,302 inmates. Two hundred minimum-security prisoners are assigned as the facility workforce. The remaining 1,104 are reception inmates assigned transitionally during their evaluation and subsequently assigned to mainstream facilities appropriate to their risk and needs.
FRDC also administers one other program located on the grounds of the Fulton State Hospital. The Biggs Correctional Unit (BCU) is a 30-day evaluation center for inmates suffering from mental illness. This unit houses 20 male and 10 female inmates. This program is administered jointly with the Missouri Department of Mental Health.
