The board is comprised of seven full-time members appointed by the governor, subject to the advice and consent of the Senate. During their six-year terms, members determine the release of individuals from confinement in the Division of Adult Institutions through parole or conditional release. Parole hearings are held at each correctional center monthly. If a release date is set the board determines whether placement in release strategies such as electronic monitoring, residential facilities and community release centers is appropriate. The board stipulates special conditions in order to address specific offender needs and improve the opportunity for success under supervision. They also monitor the supervision of offenders in the community and return those offenders to prison who are a risk to the community. The chair of the board is the chief administrative officer in charge of operations, funds, expenditures, Interstate Compact Services for supervision of parolees and probationers and is chief spokesperson for the board. The Chief State Supervisor is responsible for field services, community corrections and administrative services. The Operations Manager supervises parole services for the Board. Both the Chief State Supervisor and the Operations Manager report directly to the chair of the Board of Probation and Parole. The board also investigates and reports to the governor on all applications for pardons, commutations of sentence, reprieves or restorations of citizenship. The board may include information relating to the applicant along with appropriate recommendations.
